Lorill Wingrave, Women’s Royal Naval Services (WRNS)

Lorill Wingrave was born in South London on the 27th of May, 1925.

She joined the Women’s Royal Naval Services (WRNS) in 1943. She experienced the Blitz as well.

Gradually, on D-day,boats came trickling back(To England)and as I say, some didn’t come. That was when it hit us really,the horrors of war. Theres nothing you could do about it, the war was going on for four or five years.

You couldn’t have the lights showing,you just had to sit there and listen to the bombs fall.
